Portfolio: Page 1 of 7 An intriguing story lies behind this kitchen/bar: it's within a four-century old timber frame house from England which was dismantled, brought over to Canada and re-assembled in Toronto's Bridle Path area. Originally built for a brewer, the two round silos which once stored hops were brought over as well, and now join the two wings of the house. Dean Jackson was commissioned to build this "lion's den bar" in the Jacobean style, to look like an integral part of the house. And because the bar is in a former silo, the cabinetry, wall panelling and stair rails were all built to conform to the rounded walls. (Click here to see more details.) At the center, the sweeping curve of the marble-topped island is bracketed by hand-carved lion's head figurines, carved in oak. |
